Remembering The American Muscle Car

During the 1960’s and ceasing production during the beginning of the Nineteen Seventies, a unique class of American automobile appeared , and almost instantaneously became widely popular, particularly with boy racers , before disappearing rapidly from demand to become a modern day classic – This was the age of ‘Muscle Cars’.

Muscle Cars as their name suggests because of their high cc engines and blazingly fast acceleration.

Most muscle cars were built with V8 engines generating over 300 to 400 bhp and thence were without doubt very expensive and costly to keep on the road .

Muscle cars usedhigh performance engine parts such as specialist multiple valves , cams ,air intakes advanced carburettors and free flowing exhausts that generated extra engine power and due to this – higher car insurance premiums

Specialist fast cars before The 1960's were commonly the heavy top of the range autos fitted with the marques most powerful production engine .
The exception to this was the Chevrolet Corvette , America’s first sports car built in 1953 . During 1962 the Chevrolet Corvette was upgraded with a large V8 327 hp engine and became the first of the true type of two seater American Muscle cars, replacing the much heavier and larger performance models .

With the success of the Ford Mustang introduced in 1964 other makers marques were quick to follow and hence a lot of the muscle car market being dominated by small vehicles fitted with big V8 engines which went under the less attractive name of ‘Pony Cars’, although there were many exceptions as older Muscle Cars such as the Ford Thunderbird were upgraded with larger more powerful engines .

The Muscle car period ended in the 1970's with the Global oil crisis and gasolene rationing , which when combined with high insurance and the start of exhaust emission controls , led to a a lack of demand and the Muscle Car passed into history as some of the greatest American Autos ever produced.

At Car-Insurance.TV we have specialist american classic car insurance policies for every manufacturer of Muscle Cars including the 1960 Chevrolet corvette, 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray , 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu and 1970 Oldsmobile 442 to name but a few of the more popular American muscle car classics we offer specialist schemes and insurance cover for at the cheapest UK rates.

Natalie and Consuelo are like-minded individuals who live in Lava Landing, CA. When they aren’t working at The Big Cheese Plant, they get all dolled up for the racetrack, or go for at a tequila float at The Big Five Four. They urgently need to get Consuelo’s father out of Purgatory: he won’t stop turning up in women’s dreams until they do. But that means a trip to Mexico, and Consuelo still hasn’t gotten over her fear of long car rides . . . . Inspired by La Loter’a, a Mexican game of chance not unlike bingo, the novel is a joyous story of mamacitas and mariachis, fiestas and tupperware parties, rodeos and Miss Magma beauty contests. In Caramba! the American experience emerges in a brilliant new language and landscape, both touching and dazzlingly fresh.
