Tips for Preventing Dog Baldness

Most people don't think of associating hair loss with dogs, but it's very possible for our canine friends to start losing their hair. Until a time when your pooch starts showing up with bald patches and you're finding tons of dog hair all around your house, you may not even know that such a condition exists. It is likely, though, that every dog will go through a period like this during its lifetime. As an owner, you will need to recognize the problem and get it treated as soon as possible.

Canine hair loss isn't usually cause for alarm. You should, however, take your pet to the vet so that he can determine the underlying cause of the condition. Your dog can lose his hair for many different reasons. There are various conditions the vet can check for:
Food allergies, Ringworm, Hot Spots, Nervous stress or boredom, Canine atopy, and Demodectic mange.

There are different ways that these conditions will need to be treated. If your dog has a food allergy, you could try switching brands or changing the diet entirely. Genes can cause dogs to develop canine atopy. If this is what is ailing your pooch, your vet will probably recommend a regimen of shampoos and soothing creams which will reduce the populations of yeast and bacteria and give your dog relief.

Topical ointments can be used to treat some causes of hair loss. If your pet has ringworm, pyotraumatic dermatitis (hot spots), or dermatitis caused by a flea intestation, topicals should do the trick. In severe cases of hot spots, though, which some dogs are prone to having, your dog will itch in one or two places so badly that he'll literally scratch and bite until the area is raw. Your dog may need an anti-inflammatory injection in order to relieve the condition.

Mange can also cause canine hair loss, and there are two different types. Bacterial infections are caused by demodectic mange. Your vet can treat this type of manage with either Mitaban dips or ivermectin. Sarcopic mange occurs when parasites burrow beneath your dog's skin and causes incredible itching. Once again, ivermectin can be used as a cure, either in its oral form or by injection.

Dogs can also lose their hair because of excessive nervousness, a common problem in various terrier breeds. You will need to see your vet in order to treat this type of disorder. It's important that the vet rule out other causes of the hair loss. Doc No.azlcssaeh-sdgfhkl
