Ballroom Competition Dresses
Who can forget the day they were told they were ready to enter their first dance comp?. You're proud to have reached a watershed in your dancing career. You feel excited and nervous at the same time, at the thought of strutting your stuff in public. Probably the last thing you're thinking of is the cost of your dress! Dance competition dresses are expensive, no matter what genre of dance you're competing in.
Ballroom dancers and belly dancers might argue which has the most costly outfits, but in the end it depends just as much on the level of the competition.
Long, beaded ballroom gowns are probably the most costly competition dresses anywhere, because they require so many yards of material and pounds of crystals and beads. Belly dancers use a similar quantity of beads and crystals, but much less material - so belly dance dresses come in second. Bringing up the rear are Latin and Street Latin dresses, which are often covered in “bling” but are also extremely brief!
Of course, it's not just the materials used that determine the price. Designing and putting together a dance costume requires specialist skills. Just try getting a regular dressmaker to make you a dance dress, and see what happens! Dance costumes need to look slim fitting and flattering, while allowing you room to move freely, and ordinary dressmakers don't know the secrets to achieving that. It's only fair to expect to pay a premium for a competition dress which has been made by a really good dance dressmaker.
There's also the design to consider. If you don't want a mass-produced costume, you must expect to reward the designer who creates an original work. For instance, you will pay a high price for the latest bellydance dresses from the best designers, even though the current trend is for minimal beading. It's the artistry you're paying for.
In a dance competition, your dance ability is all that should matter – but we all know appearance counts. Rightly or wrongly, dance judges are only human and first impressions do count. So investing in something with the 'wow factor' is worth considering.
Of course, one way to get a unique dress is to make it yourself - but think twice, if you're not good at sewing. Your dress needs to be perfectly finished – not an easy task if you're just a beginner at sewing! Also take into account that applying rhinestones, crystals, beads and sequins will take many, many hours. With the increasing number of good quality, reasonably-priced competition dresses being offered by manufacturers in China, it makes less and less sense to devote so much time to doing it yourself.
If you're going to buy online, make sure you check the measurements of the dress and check references. Ebay can be a great place to buy, because You Can check the supplier's feedback rating. To be on the safe side, look for power sellers with a feedback rating of over 98%.

The timing of her faux pas couldn't be worse, for her father is seeking someone to take her off his hands that very night. . . He Challenged Her Willpower But when Thomas Armstrong overhears the so-called "Lady" Amelia slandering his sexual prowess in public, he cannot help but accept the dare implicit in her words. To her father's great delight, he offers to take her to his secluded country estate--properly chaperoned, of course--to teach the girl a lesson in ladylike behavior. . . Praise for Sinful Surrender "A delightful debut! Beverley Kendall writes with wit and passion!" --Sophie Jordan, USA Today bestselling author "A fresh new voice in historical romance." --Anna Campbell, author of Captive of Sin |
