Waking Ned Devine: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack $9.48 Traditional Irish instrumentation mixes with classical orchestration on the soundtrack to Waking Ned Devine, and the results are impressive, to say the least. On “Red Herrings,” a traditional fiddle-and-whistle lineup gets truly funky, and other tracks brim with the playful innocence of a tiny Irish hamlet. The Waterboys’ single “Fisherman’s Blues” is, of course, included as well. But the score th… |
The Joys Of Blue Marlin Fishing
Blue marlin fishing is a fascinating and addictive pastime for the adventurous angler. Their sleek bodies reach up to twenty feet in length. This, together with their long, pointed bills, combine to make them particularly photogenic. Weighing nearly a ton, they put up a fierce struggle and serve as worthy opponents for those strong enough and crazy enough to take them on in hand to hand combat using a rod and reel.
Catch And Release
Earnest Hemingway drew attention to the deep sea sport when he wrote the 1952 novel, 'The Old Man and the Sea'. The fisherman's code of 'capture and release' has evolved in order to protect diminishing stocks. While the adventure of pursuing and capturing the fascinating beasts may last less than a day,the process of getting in shape and preparing can take months.
Warm Waters
In common with their human sparring partners, these creatures crave warmth. They are found mainly in tropical seas, both Indo-Pacific and Atlantic. They take advantage of advantageous feeding conditions in the temperate zones of the north and south during the spring and summer months.
Two Species
Two genetically distinct species have been identified by scientists. These are the 'A-type', who populate the Atlantic Ocean, and the 'P-type', which prefer the Indo-Pacific oceans. The P-type wanders regularly into the Atlantic, although there have been no reports of their A-type cousins repaying the visit.
Billfish
These beautiful giants fall into the general classification of sea creatures known as 'billfish'. This is a group of species of predatory, long fish with long,sword-like beaks. Exploited both as food and game, they include swordfish and sailfish species. Swordfish are particularly favored for their tasty, firm flesh. Their long beaks are capable of spearing many types of objects (they have been observed to skewer small boats). The main function is to stun their prey.
Different Lures For Blue Marlin
Artificial lures, live and natural bait have all been successfully employed to capture the blue marlin. The most popular technique seems to be artificial lure fishing, which was developed in Hawaii. Among the earliest artificial lures were chrome towel rails tied with strips of rubber taken from inner tubes. Four or more such lures are fastened together and trolled behind boats at speeds of between 7 and 15 knots.
Best Live Bait For Blue Marlin
Live bait trolling is somewhat limited by the speeds at which the bait stays alive. Skipjack tuna, mackerel and squid, some of the target's favorite natural diet, are most useful. A popular spot for this technique is off the coast of Kona in the State of Hawaii. Tuna as large as 100 pounds in weight have been extracted from the stomachs of these big fish. Natural baits used may be either alive or dead. Atlantic types tend to go for rigged bats like Spanish mackerel or horse ballyhoo, which belongs to the halfbeak family.
So, blue marlin fishing is one of the most romantic and adventurous pastimes for the deep sea angler. The marlin fishing charters draws the fisherman to some of the most delightful beauty spots on the balmiest seas on the planet. It is, however, as demanding on the credit card as it is on the physique.
