Are You A Taurus?

The zodiac Taurus, can be seen during the winter and the early spring in the northern hemisphere and from November to February in the southern hemisphere. One of the earliest know constellations, it has been around since the Babylonians, and known to the Egyptians as their god Osiris. In astrology, people born within the dates of April 22 - May 21 are considered to "be" a Taurus. These people, according to popular horoscope readings, are thought to have an empowering combination of optimism and stamina. They are strong and determined, and revel in the inner knowledge that they will arrive at any goal they set for themselves. They are confident in their abilities and enjoy the "finer" things of life, thriving off luxury and reveling in the beauty of all things. They personify the energy of youth, the staying power of the bull, and the sensuality of Venus, their ruling planet.

A Taurus combines a passionate inner nature and easygoing personality to create and air of pleasant comic contradiction - and mystery. They tend to be practical, determined, and dependable, yet frequently spoil themselves, developing self-pampering into a new art form. They give and expect complete loyalty and faithfulness, and many times are often accused of having a dependent, needy behavior. Tending to be undemonstrative in public, they are very selective in choosing those to whom they reveal themselves. Placid and good-natured, friends and lovers may be surprised to witness one of their red hot outburst of temper that they are periodically prone to have, however, these outbursts pass quickly and they hurriedly return to their good natured selves. With a stable, easygoing, yet determined nature Taurus the Bull has the potential to have it all.

The Greeks hold Taurus to be one of the two bulls that were tamed by Jason the Argonaut. Taurus also appears in myth at times as Zeus in disguise. There is a story that tells that Zeus fell in love with the daughter of the King of Phoenicia. He changed himself into a majestic white bull and waited for her at the edge of a pool, and one day while she was playing by the waters edge, she saw Zeus in the form of the white bull, and being captivated by it's beauty, she approached the bull. When she approached Zeus knelt down and let her get on his back, but once she was on, he sprang to his feet and took off to the sea arriving in Crete where he changed back to his true form and then made her his mistress.

Taurus also represents the white bull that sired the famous Minotaur of the Labyrinth. The story goes that the white bull was sent to Minos, king of Crete, as a gift from Poseidon. It was Poseidon's way of saying that he approved of Minos, and accepting him as the heir to the throne. However, Minos, finding the bull so magnificent, could not bring himself to sacrifice the bull to Poseidon as he was instructed to do. Poseidon in his wrath, and hungry for revenge, caused his Minos's wife, queen Pasiphaë, to fall in love with the bull, and from that love came the famed Minotaur of the laybrith. This very same Minotaur of the Laybrith is later slain by Theseus who comes to Crete in search of his stolen love.
