Tricks To Get Amazing Pictures - Working With A Portrait Backdrop - Kill Red Eye - And More   by Robert Merritt

Whether you consider yourself a newbie weekend photographer or just about a professional...there are many straightforward secrets which will instantaneously upgrade your photographs. The portrait backdrop, understanding and cutting out red eye (and green eye!), the best ways to bring about added visual notice (composition) and so on...

Here's a couple bits of advice that each photographer has to grasp and be at ease using...they should take your work to a new level. Possibly even bypass a level or two! For more tips, look for my other articles on this site.

Number one: Eliminate Red-Eye

To start with, I'm frequently being asked - what the heck creates "red eye?"

Btw - it can be an sinister blue or green in animals.

Red-eye is the end result of light passing through the pupil of your subject's eye - hitting the rear of the eye - then reflecting back to your lens.

Geometric angles are an important feature here. For the light to return into a lens, the illumination source must be near your lens.

Think of light like a ball on a pool table. When you carom the ball off the cushion...for the ball to come directly back, you've got to shoot the ball directly at the cushion. If you have some angle, your ball bounces away in a different direction.

The illumination works exactly the same way.

You obtain "red eye" regularly when working with the on camera flash, because the illumination is near to and at the same angle as the lens.

Thus the best trick for cutting out red-eye is simply to avoid working with a flash whenever you don't definitely need to.

Otherwise, move the flash off of the camera or further away from the lens. That's why you find shooters using those huge "stalk" attachments jutting up above their camera, with a flash on the top. They are shifting the flash source away from the lens and altering the direction of their flash.

Better on camera flashes include heads that may be tilted and swiveled in order that the light may be bounced off of the wall or the ceiling rather than coming directly from the camera.

If you need to use the flash, a number of cameras use a built-in mode to mechanically take away red-eye. What this does is shoot several bright pulses of light. It does not in actuality take away the red eye, it only closes down the model's pupils, consequently less light is bounced back.

It also causes squinting and also a lag of the shutter firing. This will make you lose the shot, create blurred photos and bizarre faces.

I personally do not like the mode and don't employ it. Others swear by it...try it out and see which camp you're in!

Second: Pay Attention To The Portrait Backdrop

The simplest, fastest and most stunning way to instantaneously advance your photography is through the use of a professional portrait backdrop.

Most of us bypass this thought because we expect they are too expensive, you will need a studio, studio lights and so on. We believe they are only for the professional photo shooters.

Not true at all!

About the photo studio part, You Can suspend a Portrait Backdrop from a branch of a tree. No one seeing the ultimate image is able to tell.

For light... the sun, the on camera flash and a few reflectors tend to be all that's needed to get a five light set!

Simply a little experimenting will position your work head and shoulders better than your friends' images. Sample it, you won't look back!

The portrait backdrop may be the principal difference between shooting a snapshot and getting that - pro studio- look.

The only real drawback is that professional portrait backdrops frequently cost hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars!

The good news is, you can make them yourself - they appear just as good or maybe better - and cost only pennies on the dollar. I could make a pro level portrait backdrop for less than the price of shipping on a commercially created one. It really is easy.

As a necessary start, you ought to have a pure black, solid white and several other "Old masters" type.

Test making them yourself portrait backdrop. It's simple, quick and enjoyable! Then you definately will truly look like a professional shooter!
