Video games vs movies, the end of the sliver screen
Video games vs movies, which one will win? Indeed, the video game industry has taken a big junk out of the movie industry. Hollywood is facing more and more competition as video games become more and more like movies. Is this the end of of the sliver screen era?
Is Hollywood doomed? What do you like more? Which one: video games vs movies? What I love about Call Of Duty Modern Warfare is that you feel like you are your own movie hero saving the world from doom. You become immersed in the Video game story, and you control it. Very few people can resist the allure of power and excitement that a video game offers?
Since good games offers a player hundreds of hours of potential game play the movie industry can not get these people into the theaters.
But all is not lost for the movies. When movies came out way back, people thought that would be the end of reading. When TV came out people thought that would be the end of movies. So again when video games began that was supposed to spell the end of TV. Video games have been around since the 70ties.
No, the world never came to an end. How come? It is simple: the more people have the more people want. Mall developers think that more stores means more costumers, and they are right.
It boils down to this: video games vs movies, is an impossible comparison because they are two different things. One is active participation, the other is a passive experience.
I think doing one or the other is dependent on your mood, or time of day. I don't like being active all of the time. Through hand eye coordination high performance gaming is becoming a sport. Sometimes I want to passively sit back and be entertained, this is the role of a movie, sometimes I want to romantically watch a movie with my wife. Sometimes I want to be a winner, a hero, the best I can be, that is what a video game gives me.
Now the real problem is not that video games are better than movies, its getting those gamers into the cinema again, and the way they do this by creating gimmicks like real 3D, or combining the film concept with a video game release. It is true that movie goers might be less and less, but now we do not even have to leave the comfort of our home with VOD. If you like movie style video games that combine the best of both worlds this is it: Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2
