The Use of Arthurian Legend in Hollywood Film $155 This is the first book to examine the various uses of the Arthurian legend in Hollywood film, covering films from the 1920s to the present. The authors use five representational categories: intertextual collage (or cult film); melodrama, which focuses on the love triangle; conservative propaganda, pervasive during the Cold War; the Hollywood epic; and the postmodern quest, which commonly employs the grail portion of the legend. Arguing that filmmakers rely on the audience’s rudimentary familiarity with the legend, the authors show that only certain features of the legend are activated at any particular time. This fascinating study shows us how the legend has been adapted and how through the popular medium of Hollywood films, the Arthurian legend has survived and flourished. |

Holy Wood (In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death) $4.85 The impact of Marilyn Manson’s subversive musical agenda has waned, and what’s left is a provocative, talented artist writing affecting, powerful, and yes, controversial songs. Although Holy Wood is the third title of a trilogy that began with 1996′s Antichrist Superstar, the album stands on its own. Rife with references to the Beatles and the Kennedys, and full of pop-culture barbs, Holy Wood is … |
Video Games Vs Movies, Can They Be Compared
Video games vs movies, I love both. Indeed, the video game industry has taken a big junk out of the movie industry. The movie industry is faced with stiff competition as video games become more and more like movies. Have we seen the last of the the sliver screens days?
Is Hollywood doomed? What do you like more? Video games vs movies? What I love about Call Of Duty Modern Warfare is that you feel like you are your own movie hero saving the world from doom. Video games give you power over the story itself. How can anyone resist this kind of power and excitement that a video game gives you?
The biggest problem for the movies is getting players who, through their games, have literally hundreds of hours of potential game play to go to a movie.
Is all hope lost for the movies? No. When movies came out way back, people thought that would be the end of reading. People thought that would be the end of movies, when TV came out. So again when video games began that was supposed to spell the end of TV. Video games have been around since the 70ties.
No, the world never came to an end. why is this? The more people have the more people want, that's how simple it is. This is the theory behind shopping centers: developers try and cram in as many stores as possible into one location, and even if another center opens in the same area, that's great too! Having more stores means more costumers.
It boils down to this: video games vs movies, is an impossible comparison because they are two different things. One is active, one is passive.
I think doing one or the other is dependent on your mood, or time of day. Sometimes I just don't fell like being active. A video game is like partaking in sports. Sometimes I want to passively be entertained, I want to romantically watch a movie with my wife, this is the role of a movie. Sometimes I want to be the best I can be, a hero, that is what a video game gives me.
Now the real problem is not that video games are better than movies, its getting those gamers into the cinema again, and the way they do this by creating gimmicks like real 3D, or combining the film concept with a video game release. It is true that movie goers might be less and less, but now we do not even have to leave the comfort of our home with VOD. One of the best movie style video games of all time is Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2
