This interesting and colorful house was the home of the Nobel Prize winning poet, and is full of eccentric little things Neruda collected during his life, as well as a library overflowing with books, a secret passageway, and art created by his friends. The area around La Chascona is also fun to explore, as there are plenty of little cafes, restaurants, and stores.
Visiting the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino will give you an idea of Santiago's very interesting history. South America's history goes way back before cities like Santiago started being built, and the museum shows you artifacts from the Olmec, Inca, and Maya civilizations that lived in these areas during that time. Don't miss out on the Andean mummy, a mummy older than those found in Egypt.
