Why You Should Never Use Free Hosting to Serve Your Website   by Matt Helphrey

Before You Can start your own website you must first figure out where you are going to have your website hosted. This simply means that you need to find a company or server that you can place all of the files associated with your website. There are a few things to consider when finding a suitable host for your new website.

It may be somewhat confusing to find a good host with all of the different hosts out there. You may choose to go the cheap route or even find a free host for your new website. But that may not be your best choice and here's why...

Many of the free hosts that offer to allow you to put your website on their server are shady to say the least. Since you aren't paying anything, they feel that they can do whatever they want to your website. You may load up all of your files and everything looks great, then for no reason your template may change or you may see a big banner advertising something that has nothing to do with your website. Your files and website may disappear altogether for no reason and with little to no warning.

If you are planning on running an established web business and are trying to build credibility with your visitors, I highly recommend that you stay away from any and all free servers. That is unless of course you serve your own website on your own computer or you have a friend that allows you to put it on theirs. If you choose this route, you want to make sure that whatever computer you decide to put it on is going to be on all of the time. If the power is off on your computer, your website won't show online and no one will be able to view it.

When selecting a reputable host, you need to find one that will give you the capabilities you need to run your website. Some hosts only allow a certain amount of memory or files you can put on their server and you may be limited in the amount of traffic you can get to your site. That sort of ruins your chance of being able to establish a big web presence if your traffic is limited.

However, there are some legit hosting companies that you can use and that I would suggest. One of which is Hostgator.com. You can host an unlimited amount of websites for around $10 a month. This will allow you as much traffic as you need and as many files as you have or want. They also provide great support and use an easy to learn cPanel backdoor office so you can easily manage all of your files.
