A powerful, blazingly honest memoir: the story of an eleven-hundred-mile solo hike that broke down a young woman reeling from catastrophe—and built her back up again.   At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.   Strayed faces down rattlesnakes and black bears, intense heat and record snowfalls, and both the beauty and loneliness of the trail. Told with great suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild vividly captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

Three Important Reasons Why Tactical Military Gear Is More Than Adequate For Wild Animal Surveying

I adore the outside, although I've been chased by a bear, bitten by snakes twice and nearly lost a toe to frostbite. The outside is not for everyone and I'll be first to admit that. But there is something primal about being right there in the thick of nature.

One or two years back I got hooked on wildlife observation, the type you see on those wildlife programs on TV. What I'll say is that the secret to getting as close as feasible to your subject is blending into the environment.

They Blend In
A method to blend in is by using camouflage apparel. I myself like camouflage military gear. I actually have 1 or 2 sets of tactical military gear apparel and each one comes in different color schemes to mix in with the different environments. I have got a set of white ones which are for polar bear observation. I also have 2 variations of green based military gear attire, one for grasslands and another which suits jungle outings.

They are Durable
The outside need a person who is craggy. You should expect tons of cuts and bruises, stormy weather and not one of the comforts of home. Obviously, the gear that you bring along must be durable. Leave everything that tears or breaks easily at home or you will regret it later on.

Your gear needs to be durable enough to get thru thorny bushes, rough tree trunks and the occasional wild animal attack without disintegrating.

This is the reason why I select tactical military gear for all my expeditions. They've been thru weeks of mud, snow and rain and they are still running strongly. Sure I am unable to get much of the stains off but I believe it just adds personality to the whole ensemble.

They Have Masses of Storage
One thing you need when going on wildlife expeditions is lots of storage. Remember, you'll be gone for weeks. You not only need spare clothing, you would also need spares of everything.

I love that my ruck pack has lots of inbuilt compartments that make it simple to organise and access my gear. It's also got drainage holes at the bottom for wet days. Be sure to store items you would like to keep dry in a plastic zip lock bag.

My military gear back pack also comes with Friends webbing which make it easy to glue gear as well as smaller pouches to it. I typically carry all the stuff that I might be using frequently in the outer pockets and attached pouches. That said , it would be a brilliant idea to wrap your camera lenses with some bubble wrap to provide protection for it from light knocks if you are going to keep them in the outer compartments.

Summary
If you are serious about wildlife observation or any other activity that has to do with long-term out of doors excursions, do give a idea about investing in some quality tactical military gear. They're not the least expensive outdoor gear around, but they are hard enough to last for several years of rough use.

Remember :

  • Durable tactical military gear last longer and is unlikely to give way during your expedition
  • Gear with lots of proper storage space means You Can load more stuff and organize them accordingly
  • For long, rough journeys, invest in good outdoor gear
